Dentist

Finley and Penelope went to the dentist this morning.  It was Finley's second time and Penelope's first.

Finley was a nightmare last time she went (approx. 20 months old) so I was worried how it would all go down.  The biggest difference from now and then was that Finley now loves, LOVES brushing her teeth when before you had to hold her down to get them brushed.  It was awful.

Penelope went first and she loved the big chair and the fact that there were cartoons on the tv.  She wouldn't open her mouth though so Dr C gave her a toothbrush and that worked.  Since she doesn't get juice or a soother our only concern is her thumb sucking.  Dr C said that it won't cause any problems right now if she does it but it can push the teeth back starting between 2 + 3.  If there was ever a reason to encourage more than ever to quit sucking her thumb it is the prospect of thousands of dollars in dentist bills that I would like to avoid.  All her teeth are coming in great and Dr C had no concerns.

Because Finley was 3 she now gets to get her teeth brushed and all that fun stuff.  Dr C was impressed this time around with how co-operative Finley was and how good her teeth were.  Finley was never a thumb sucker, isn't a juice drinker and has never had a soother so we never had concerns with her.  She enjoyed getting her teeth counted and looked at.  She quite enjoyed getting her teeth brushed but did not enjoy the suction to get it all out.  Finley was given a new princess toothbrush which just totally rocked her world!

On our way out, they got to pick a prize from the tickle trunk.  Finley picked a very pretty ring with a gold "stone" and Penelope picked a car.  They were both thrilled with their new tooth brushes and prizes!

So happy with a successful dental trip!!
