building a book sling

Finley and Pia (our latest + greatest nickname for Penelope) love books.  They read them all the time, love to be read to and more recently, Finley loves to tell you what is going on in the book (very good for language development).  My problem was storing them in the bonus room.  They both have bookcases in their bedrooms but that doesn't work well for the other room.  I currently housed them on a shelf on the expedit but it got messy real fast and I hated the look of it.

So while we were perusing the Toys R Us flyer, we saw an Imaginarium Book Sling.  It came in espresso, primary and pastel.  We have a primary toy organizer (thanks Kijiji) in our bonus room and a pastel one in the basement play room.  We decided to go with the espresso one with the thought that long after the toy organizers are gone, the book sling would be something we could keep for years and it matches the rest of the furniture in there.  So off to Toys R Us I went.  After a lot of looking and some help from a lady who tracked it down upstairs in their storage area, I got the book sling.

On a side note, I cannot believe how busy it was for a Monday morning.  It was ridiculous!!  I tried kijiji but all the ads were of mom's wanting the sling, not selling them!

Here are the pieces that were in the box.  I thought that it would be easy to put together.

It even came with an allan wrench so I didn't have to go searching in the garage for the right screw driver or drill bit.

It was much harder that I had anticipated.  I had to redo 2 of the shelves because I did them crooked and couldn't get the screws tight enough.  But eventually I got it right!

The completed project

The new reading area.  I took the books currently in the bonus room and a bunch from Finley's room to fill it up with the books.  Both girls love having their books right by their chairs.  And there are less books in Finley's room which means less books for her to pull off her shelves and for me to pick up.

It was a fantastic investment!!!!

  1. This is the sort of project where I think 'gee Brian should be able to do that' and where Brian rolls his eyes. Trust me, you are getting it the right way.
