This is the 5th season that we have had season tickets to the Calgary Flames. However, it seems like each season, we go to less and less games which is a product of two little kids. Finley attended her first hockey game at 3 weeks old and Penelope was 5 weeks when she went to her first game. We went to most games until I returned back to work in 2009 and then we started only going to weekend games or games that were teams that we really wanted to see during the week. It seemed to work well. However, Finley was at that age where it was hard to keep her happy at hockey games for the full game. Although Saddledome Malt helped somewhat, it didn't last long!
By the time Penelope came around, it seemed to be more work than fun to attend a Flames game with both girls. Although we owned 4 season tickets, we only had 2 seats as we sold the entire season of two of the tickets to another person as it was getting tougher and tougher to sell seats with the Flames not doing so well. And 2 seats was not enough for all the crap we needed to bring plus 2 kids. We still sold most weeknight games and then on the weekends my Aunty Leslie and Uncle Doug usually babysat the girls. It worked out perfectly - we got to enjoy the game and they got to enjoy the girls!!
This season however, we wanted to bring the girls to a few games. So we told the guy who normally buys our other 2 tickets that we wanted a few weekend games so we could have 4 tickets so that we all could go. I think it works out that we have 4 weekend games that we all go together and this past saturday was the first one.
Here is Penelope waiting for the game to start. She had her own seat but it mostly stayed empty. She liked sitting on Daddy and she is still a little small for her to sit on her own without paying attention that she doesn''t fall or go flying or try to get off of the seat herself.
Here is Finley wearing her brand new Flames jersey. She didn't want to wear it at first because it was going to cover up her Daisy Duck shirt but I told her that Tanner had the same jersey and he loved to wear it to Flames game. She happily put it on after that. She cheered loud when the Flames came on the ice.
When the Flames hit the ice, the lights go out and it gets really loud and fire shoots out and it scares the crap out of Finley. It never bothered her as a baby but last year she cried at the beginning of every game and each time the Flames scored. This year, she covered the eyes with her magna doodle and was ok. You could tell she was definitely scared but no tears!!
Penelope is not happy because we are at the Flames game. She is happy because she LOVES Harvey the Hound. Finley hated Harvey until this game. Hated him. Harvey waved at the girls. Made their day!
Harvey the Hound!!
The key to happy kids at a Flames game? Lots of food and their own seat. Makes a huge difference!!! I filled the diaper bag full of homemade muffins, fruit snacks, banana bread, goldfish and milk so they didn't have to eat the gross Saddledome food although they did share Daddy's nachos and pizza.
Kicking back and enjoying the game!
We had a great time at the game and the fact it was an afternoon game made it even better. It's nice being done a game before 5pm. The girls had a lot of fun and so did we. But I am not going to lie - I am glad it's only 4 games with them - it was still way more exhausting and work then going to a Flames should be.
PS I rocked my Regehr jersey. There were lots in the crowd too. Of course there were though - we LOVED him. I don't really know who my favourite Flame is right now but no matter what Greg says IT IS NOT Chris Butler.....
