Growing up I LOVED Sweet Valley books. I loved the kids, the middle school and the high school and all the special legacy ones they put out. Apparently there was a university series as well but I don't remember reading them. I remember I wanted to be Jessica and date Bruce Patman.
Needless to say, I was so excited when I heard Francine Pascal was doing Sweet Valley Confidential - Sweet Valley 10 years later. However, I was excited for nothing.
The book came out on Tuesday and my sister purchased it. She just happens to be in Calgary for some training for work so I took advantage of this and read it. It had very little substance, very predictable and cheesy beyond belief. And much to my anger there was absolutely no reference to Elizabeth killing Jessica's boyfriend Sam after their prom. Nothing. Did that not happen or was it simply a figment of my imagination??
I won't spoil it for everybody if you haven't read it yet and are planning to, but what a disappointment. It seemed to me like a money grabber and that's it.
If you have read it or when you do read it, drop me a line and let me know what you think!
I was (and still am!) a Sweet Valley lover! I read the Twins books in the tub sometimes...I can whip through them in about 20 minutes lol. I hadn't heard about this new book, but I will check it out. I'll let you know what I think of it!
ReplyDeleteYou are totally right - I just finished it 5 minutes ago. While it's nice that love and forgiveness ultimately triumphs, going 200 pages of whining and crying was getting on my nerves. I found it to be completely bland and without much imagination. Francine Pascal did herself a disfavor in my eyes by interjecting all the brand names and places and news into her book, yet when discussing things pertinent to those topics, she fell flat. I was shocked at a few things, like Steven! I actually had to re-read the sentence a couple of times. I also think she should have brushed up on what ehr ghost writers wrote in the SVH books, cause there were some vry definite glaring omissions! Not a good read!
