30 Day Challenge: Day 9

Challenge #9 Favorite meme at the moment

I had no idea what a meme even was, so I googled it.  Then I found out that it is basically something that spreads via the internet on various social networking sites.  Basically when you hear the term "it went viral" it is referring to a meme.  So I guess I do know what a meme is after all!

Here are some of my favorite "memes":

David After Dentist...

This one I heard about while driving to Saskatoon either at Thanksgiving or the beginning of May for Ryan + Colleen's wedding.  It was on John Gormley - which by the way, repeats it in the evening if you are ever driving back to Saskatoon for any particular reason.  It is about a boy who went to the dentist and he was all weird from the freezing and drugs whatever and the dad decided to video tape it for his mom to see.  His mom loved it and David thought it was also funny so they put it on youtube so family + friends could see it.  It turned into youtube craze - it currently has over 73 million views on youtube.  When we got back to Calgary, we youtubed it and here is the link:

JK Wedding Entrance

I am sure you have seen or heard of this one.  The wedding party decides to dance down the aisle to Forever  by Chris Brown instead of the traditional, boring wedding marches that are normally played.  It is hilarious and also went viral and currently has over 58 million views on youtube, here is the link:

It has been redone by everybody, most famously, The Office did this when Jim + Pam got married - which by the way, was one of my most favorite eppy's of the show - EVER!  Here is the link to that one:

You just gotta love Dwight kicking Pam's bridesmaid in the face....hahah

But the group responsible for making Meme's super popular and youtube what it is today is TheLonelyIsland,  If you have never heard of them, they are responsible for the digital shorts on Saturday Night Live, the Movies  Hot Rod + MacGruber as well as the new marketing campaign for Rokk Vodka.  Their first "big" digital short on SNL "Lazy Sunday" had over a million hits - the day AFTER it debuted on SNL back on December 17th, 2005. NBC was like what....and realized they could make money off of this craze and so they created HULU.  HULU basically airs all of NBC's shorts, shows etc but you have to pay for it and in some instances its free but basically NBC makes money off of it with advertising.  Unfortunately, HULU is not available in Canada and you can thank Global and CTV for this.  Because they own the Cdn programming rights for most major US Network shows, you have to watch it on their website and therefore HULU has not  yet been approved by the CRTC.....

BUT NBC recently launched a site on NBC.com that allows you to view all of the Digital Shorts without having to use HULU which is great news if you are fan like Greg + I are.

Some that you  have probably heard of are: D*ck In A Box featuring Justin Timberlake.  It won a primetime Emmy for this short.  The follow up to that short was Mother Lover also featuring Justin Timberlake.  It was nominated for an Emmy but lost.  2 more recent shorts that were huge were Shy Ronnie featuring Rihanna which also lost its Emmy nomination and Ronnie + Clyde also featuring Rihanna which aired a few weeks ago.  Most of the shorts are at the link above and are their for your personal viewing.  My most favorite is probably 2 Worlds Collide with Andy Samberg + Kenan Thompson.

PS these shorts are definitely PG 13 and are easily considered to be Offensive so do take caution when viewing them!
