This was the day that the Chilean Miners were trapped in the San Jose mine. It was the last time they saw their families. It was the last time they saw the light of day. Until yesterday. 69 days total. 69 totals they missed out of their lives, of their families lives, of the day to day basic activities that we take for granted.
Do you know how much can happen in 69 days? Here is what has gone on in my life the last 69 days:
1. I had a baby
2. 5 of my friends had babies
3. My cousin + his family moved to Red Deer
4. We made 2 trips to Red Deer
5. We made a 5 day trip to Saskatchewan
6. I had a birthday
7. 6 members of my family and 4 good friends celebrated birthdays
8. There were 3 anniversaries celebrated
9. Canada elected a new Governor General
10. We renovated our bathroom
11. We renovated our kitchen
12. One of my best friends got engaged
13. I got asked to be a bridesmaid
14. Finley got asked to be a flower girl
That's a whole lot of stuff going on that these miners may have missed out on. Can you imagine being trapped some where and knowing that you were missing all of this? I can't and I certainly couldn't imagine Greg not being here either.
To say that there survival is nothing short of miracle would be an understatement. I can't even imagine the emotions that they must be going through, the relief that their families must feel. I watched on CNN the miners coming out, so full of every possible emotion and I couldn't help but feel that too.
I really hope that these miners have no long term health repercussions from being trapped and are able to go on with their lives and live life to the fullest, to make up for all that they have lost and missed out on. And I hope that they have other jobs to go back to work as I can't imagine any of them wanting them to go back to the mines.
So as we watch the news coverage of the Chilean Miracle, take a look around you and see what you have and be thankful that you and your family are not missing anything that is of importance to you. Never take for granted the freedoms that we have, the sunshine in our lives or the air that we breathe.
